On this page you’ll find images from Long Day’s Journey into Night and get a taste of what’s in store from this fantastic production.

Long Day’s Journey into Night is the story of James Tyrone, and his two sons Edmund and Jamie who seek comfort in drink whilst their wife and mother Mary becomes more and more erratic. Set in Connecticut in 1912, the plays follows the fateful events of one day from 8.30 am to midnight.

The pictures in this gallery are from the current West End production of Long Day’s Journey into Night and feature the characters of James, Mary, Edmund and Jamie as performed by David Suchet, Laurie Metcalf, Kyle Soller and Trevor White.

The play was written by Eugene O’Neill and it originally premiered in Stockholm, Sweden in 1956.

After finishing the play, O’Neill instructed his publisher that it must not be published until 25 years after his death. The playwright was so adamant that a contract was drawn up to ensure his wishes were met. But a way around this agreement was established when the playwright’s third wife gave the rights to the play to Yale University.

Following O’Neill’s death in 1953 the play was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1957.

We hope these pictures give you a taste for the show and have whetted your appetite for Long Day’s Journey into Night. Have a fantastic time when you see it at the Apollo Theatre.
