You'll be moved by the story of Jean Valjean, the reformed man who is dogged by relentless officer of the law Javert, and swept up in the spirit of revolution alongside the underdogs of 19th century Paris.
Your heart will break for Éponine as dashing young student Marius falls for Cosette. And as Javert closes in and things look bad for the rebels, the stage is set for confrontations and confessions, but perhaps also the redemptive power of love.
So don’t be put off by the title. This is no depressing weepy, and the cunning landlord Thénardier and his wife provide more than enough comic relief.
