Great Expectations

Charles Dickens' coming of age novel depicts the growth and personal development of a humble orphan named Pip who suddenly becomes a gentleman with the help of an unknown benefactor.

As 'Mister Pip' reflects upon the circumstances of his childhood, we learn how he was plucked from poverty to come to age in the presence of the bitter and bizarre spinster Miss Havisham, who trained her beautiful nieve Estella to cruelly tantalise Pip in order to vicariously exact her revenge on the man who left her at the altar.
