Cheap Queen Anne RSC tickets at the Theatre Royal Haymarket

The Show

Following a critically acclaimed, sold-out season at the Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, the Royal Shakespeare Company production of Queen Anne transfers to the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 30 June.

Emma Cunniffe (The Crucible, Great Expectations) returns as Queen Anne and is joined by Romola Garai (Suffragette, The Hour) as Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough in Helen Edmundson's (The Heresy of Love) gripping play that explores the life of one of England's little known sovereigns who is torn between friendship and duty.

Queen Anne is directed by Natalie Abrahami (Happy Days) and plays for a strictly limited thirteen week season presented by TRH Productions, Scott Landis and Tulchin Bartner Productions.

1702. William III is on the throne and England is on the verge of war.

Princess Anne is soon to become Queen, and her advisors vie for influence over the future monarch. Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough, a close friend with whom Anne has an intensely personal relationship, begins to exert increasing pressure as she pursues her own designs on power.

Contending with deceit and blackmail, Anne must decide where her allegiances lie, and whether to sacrifice her closest relationships for the sake of the country.

Venue Info

Theatre Royal Haymarket

The Theatre Royal, Haymarket is situated on Haymarket in the West End of London, close to Piccadilly Circus tube station. Built in 1720, this opulent 880 seat venue resembles a palace, with gold engravings and murals painted on the ceilings.

The first production at the Theatre Royal Haymarket was Richard Sheridan’s now-classic comedy of manners The Rivals, which opened on July 4 1821. Among the countless notable shows to have graced this venerable West End theatre’s stage since then are Our American Cousin, Oscar Wilde’s A Woman of No Importance and An Ideal Husband, Tom Thumb, Yellow Sands, A Voyage Round My Father and The Aspern Papers.

Like any long-serving institution, The Theatre Royal Haymarket has been through its fair share of changes over the years. It closed in 1904 for five months whilst a reconstruction of the front of house area was carried out. Backstage was refurbished in 1909 when a working curtain was also installed.

Extensive restorations took place in 1984, with new carpets laid, chairs reupholstered, wallpaper replaced, air-conditioning installed and the stage and roof reinforced.

The Theatre Royal Haymarket remains one of the cornerstones of London theatre, presenting an eclectic range of productions that showcase some of the world’s most gifted and renowned performers.

The layout, size and atmosphere of the Theatre Royal Haymarket make it the perfect place to see a wide range of dramas and comedies. Recent successes include Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Girl with a Pearl Earring, Treasure Island, Waiting for Godot, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, The Tempest, The Lion in Winter and One Man, Two Guvnors.

Whatever you decide to see at the Royal Theatre Haymarket, we wish you an entertaining and rewarding visit.
