Cheap One Man, Two Guvnors tickets at the Theatre Royal Haymarket

The Show

Following sell-out seasons at the National Theatre and Adelphi Theatre, One Man, Two Guvnors has won major awards in the West End and on Broadway, including the Evening Standard Award for Best Play.

Richard Bean's hilarious play is an adaptation of Servant of Two Masters, Venetian playwright Carlo Goldonia's 1743 Commedia dell'arte comedy. Bean has transplanted the action from its period Italian setting to the Brighton of 1963, in a Britain poised on the very brink of shrugging off the dull grey shackles of the Fifties and exploding into the glorious Technicolor of the swinging Sixties proper. Regardless of where or when it may be set, the humour couldn’t be any fresher, funnier or more up-to-date.

It’s been critically acclaimed as one of the funniest plays ever staged in London. Don’t miss your chance to see the smash hit that's the perfect antidote to gloom at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, with the brilliant Rufus Hound as dim-but-loveable Francis Henshall. It’s suitable for audiences aged 14+.

The Story

It’s 1963. Fired from his skiffle band, Francis Henshall takes on the job of minder to small-time East End crook Roscoe Crabbe. Roscoe’s in Brighton to collect £6,000 from his fiancée’s dad. But Roscoe isn’t Roscoe at all - he’s Rachel Crabbe, posing as her brother, who was killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers.

Holed up at The Cricketers' Arms, perma-hungry Francis spies a meal ticket in the form of a second job with Stubbers, who’s hiding from the police while he waits to be reunited with Rachel. To make sure he isn’t rumbled, Francis has to keep his two guvnors apart. And that’s where the fun really starts…

Venue Info

Theatre Royal Haymarket

image

The Theatre Royal, Haymarket is situated on Haymarket in the West End of London, close to Piccadilly Circus tube station. Built in 1720, this opulent 880 seat venue resembles a palace, with gold engravings and murals painted on the ceilings.

The first production at the Theatre Royal Haymarket was Richard Sheridan’s now-classic comedy of manners The Rivals, which opened on July 4 1821. Among the countless notable shows to have graced this venerable West End theatre’s stage since then are Our American Cousin, Oscar Wilde’s A Woman of No Importance and An Ideal Husband, Tom Thumb, Yellow Sands, A Voyage Round My Father and The Aspern Papers.

Like any long-serving institution, The Theatre Royal Haymarket has been through its fair share of changes over the years. It closed in 1904 for five months whilst a reconstruction of the front of house area was carried out. Backstage was refurbished in 1909 when a working curtain was also installed.

Extensive restorations took place in 1984, with new carpets laid, chairs reupholstered, wallpaper replaced, air-conditioning installed and the stage and roof reinforced.

The Theatre Royal Haymarket remains one of the cornerstones of London theatre, presenting an eclectic range of productions that showcase some of the world’s most gifted and renowned performers.

The layout, size and atmosphere of the Theatre Royal Haymarket make it the perfect place to see a wide range of dramas and comedies. Recent successes include Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Girl with a Pearl Earring, Treasure Island, Waiting for Godot, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, The Tempest, The Lion in Winter and One Man, Two Guvnors.

Whatever you decide to see at the Royal Theatre Haymarket, we wish you an entertaining and rewarding visit.
