Cheap One Man, Two Guvnors tickets at the Theatre Royal Haymarket
Following sell-out seasons at the National Theatre and Adelphi Theatre, One Man, Two Guvnors has won major awards in the West End and on Broadway, including the Evening Standard Award for Best Play.
Richard Bean's hilarious farce is an adaptation of Servant of Two Masters, Venetian playwright Carlo Goldonia's 1743 Commedia dell'arte comedy. Bean has transplanted the action from its period Italian setting to the Brighton of 1963, in a Britain poised on the brink of shrugging off the dull grey shackles of the Fifties and exploding into the glorious Technicolor of the swinging Sixties proper. Regardless of where or when it may be set, the humour couldn’t be any fresher, funnier or more up-to-date.
It’s been critically acclaimed as one of the funniest plays ever staged in London. Don’t miss your chance to see the smash hit that's the perfect antidote to gloom at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, with the brilliant Owain Arthur returning as dim-but-loveable Francis Henshall for the show's final six months in the West End. It’s suitable for audiences aged 14+.
It’s 1963. Fired from his skiffle band, Francis Henshall takes on the job of minder to small-time East End crook Roscoe Crabbe. Roscoe’s in Brighton to collect £6,000 from his fiancée’s dad. But Roscoe isn’t Roscoe at all - he’s Rachel Crabbe, posing as her brother, who was killed by Rachel's boyfriend Stanley Stubbers.
Holed up at The Cricketers' Arms, perma-hungry Francis spies a meal ticket in the form of a second job with Stubbers, who’s hiding from the police while he waits to be reunited with Rachel. To make sure he isn’t rumbled, Francis has to keep his two guvnors apart. And that’s where the fun really starts…
