Cheap ROH's Mixed Programme tickets at the Royal Opera House

The Show

The Royal Opera House's Mixed Programme showcases a catalogue of work choreographed by Frederick Ashton.

La Valse, Méditation from Thaïs, Voices of Spring, and Marguerite and Armand make for a bewitching specticale, as Aston's slick choreography characterises and energises these stories of love, passion and tragedy.

The Story

La Valse has been interpreted by some critics as a representation of the destruction wrought by World War I and of the decline of the Imperial world.

Thaïs takes place in Egypt during Byzantine rule, where a Cenobite monk, Athanaël, attempts to convert Thaïs, an Alexandrian courtesan and devotee of Venus, to Christianity, but discovers too late that his obsession with her is rooted in lust. While the courtesan's true purity of heart is revealed, so is the religious man's baser nature.

The burgeoning love between Marguerite and Armand is threatened by social convention and the 'gilded cage' in which Marguerite lives.
