The Show

A classic love story is brought up-to-date in one of the most stunning theatrical spectacles of all time. Since Miss Saigon's sensational record-breaking run at London's Theatre Royal Drury Lane 25 years ago, it has played in 300 cities in 15 different languages, winning awards around the world.

Its international cast includes Jon Jon Briones as The Engineer, Eva Noblezada as Kim, Alistair Brammer as Chris, Tamsin Carroll as Ellen, Hugh Maynard as John and Rachelle Ann Go as Gigi.

The Story

With Miss Saigon, the creators of Les Miserables update Puccini's Madame Butterfly to the modern world, and it's a moving testament to the human spirit. The show is set in the final days of the American occupation of Saigon at the end of the Vietnam war, and charts the intense romance of an American GI and a young Vietnamese woman.

Claude-Michel Schnberg and Alain Boublil's musical also features a newly penned song, Maybe, that has featured in recent Dutch and Japanese productions. London audiences will be the first to hear it in English.

Venue Info

Prince Edward Theatre

image

The Prince Edward Theatre is situated on Old Compton Street in the West End of London, close to Leicester Square tube station. Built in 1930, this formidable venue has the capacity to seat 1619 patrons.

The first production at the Prince Edward Theatre was musical comedy Rio Rita, which opened on April 3 1930. Among the countless notable shows to have graced this venerable West End theatre’s stage since then are Evita, Chess, Anything Goes, Crazy for You and Show Boat.

Today, the Prince Edward Theatre enjoys consistent success and is especially well known for staging both new and revived musicals.

Just five years after opening, the Prince Edward Theatre was bought out and converted into a cabaret restaurant and dance hall. The stage was converted into a dance floor and the area underneath the stage was transformed into kitchens.

The theatre reopened as the London Casino in 1936. The theatre was completely out of use for two years during WWII, during which it also served nobly as a centre of entertainment for British troops. It was renamed the Forces Theatre in 1942.

Over the next twenty years the space was transformed a number of times from variety theatre to cinema to dance hall until finally in 1978, after an extensive refurbishment, it opened as a theatre under the name the Prince Edward Theatre.

The theatre was closed for 3 years from 1990, when a complete renovation took place. The acoustics, lighting and stage facilities all received an upgrade, side boxes were added to the auditorium and the stage was extended to be both deeper and wider.

Recent successes at the Prince Edward Theatre include West Side Story, Mamma Mia!, Mary Poppins and Jersey Boys.

Whatever you decide to see at the Prince Edward Theatre, we wish you an entertaining and rewarding visit.
