Cheap Jesus Christ Superstar tickets at the O2 Arena
Jesus Christ Superstar first came to major theatres when it debuted on Broadway in October 1971 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre in New York. The Broadway production ran for 720 performances, closing two years later after grossing £2.8 million at the box office, and Andrew Lloyd Webber won the prestigious Drama Desk Award as Most Promising Composer for Jesus Christ Superstar in 1972.
Less than 12 months after the Broadway show opened, the rock spectacle came to London, exploding onto the West End at the Palace Theatre in August 1972 in a hugely successful production directed by Jim Sharman and starring Paul Nicholas singing the part of Jesus.
By 1980, after 3,358 performances, Jesus Christ Superstar had become the longest running musical in West End history at the time and grossed £7.5 million.
Two decades later, Jesus Christ Superstar received its first blessing from the Vatican when a production by Massimo Romeo Piparo’s Peep Arrow company was endorsed by the Vatican’s official 2000 Jubilee Programme. Songs from the show were performed in front of Pope John Paul II in Rome during the Jubilee in May of that year.
Tickets will be posted out one week before the event
Loosely based on the Gospels, Jesus Christ Superstar is a respectful but rousing musical retelling of the deeply eventful last week in the life of Jesus.
When Jesus’ disciple Judas Iscariot starts to worry about Jesus’ growing reputation as the Son of God, he warns Jesus not to raise the anger of the Roman Empire. But Jesus doesn’t do as he asks, and is led to his downfall at the hands of the evil King Herod.

The O2 Arena
The O2 Arena is situated in Greenwich, close to North Greenwich tube station. Such are the combined ticket sales of the vast O2 Arena complex that it beats New York’s Madison Square Garden to the punch for the title of ‘world’s top-selling venue’, with a huge 2 million visits a year.
Constructed as a part of the Millennium Experience, which closed at the end of 2000, the Millennium Dome was leased for redevelopment as an entertainment complex. Construction of the Arena began in 2003 and was completed in 2007.
Today, the O2 Arena enjoys consistent success and has established a reputation for hosting the world’s biggest contemporary music artists, sporting events and theatrical shows.
The entire seating plan can be altered at the O2. The ground surface has the ability to change into an ice rink, basketball court, exhibition space, conference venue, private hire venue and concert venue. The Arena was built with the intention of reducing echo, which has previously been a problem in a number of London music venues.
The O2 complex also houses indigo2, a more intimate concert venue; the O2 Bubble which hosts various exhibitions; Proud2, a small venue that predominately hosts club nights; and Entertainment Avenue, which houses a cinema and is packed with restaurants and bars.
The layout, size and atmosphere of the O2 Arena make it the perfect place to see the world’s biggest stars and huge theatrical events. Recent successes include WWE Raw, Rhianna, Katy Perry, Guns N’ Roses, the London 2012 Summer Olympic Gymnastics and Jesus Christ Superstar.
Whatever you decide to see at the O2 Arena, we wish you an entertaining and rewarding visit.
