The Show

Having played to more than 2 million people since its premiere in 2009, Dreamboats and Petticoats, inspired by the smash hit, multi-million selling albums Dreamboats and Petticoats one, two, three, four and five, features some of the greatest songs of the Rock 'n' Roll era, when each passing week brought another classic track.

Dreamboats and Petticoats is written by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, the team behind Goodnight Sweetheart, Birds of a Feather, The New Statesmen and Shine On Harvey Moon, and produced by Bill Kenwright and Laurie Mansfield in association with Universal Music. It features classic tracks from Roy Orbison, The Shadows, Eddie Cochran, Billy Fury, and many more, including Let's Dance, To Know Him Is To Love Him, Shaking All Over, Bobby's Girl, Little Town Flirt, Only Sixteen, Runaround Sue, Happy Birthday Sweet 16, Let It Be Me, Great Pretender, C'mon Everybody, Let's Twist Again and many more hits from music's golden era! Dreamboats and Petticoats - the songs will live forever!

The Story

In 1961 emotions run high as young musicians Norman and Bobby compete to win a national song writing competition – and, more importantly, the attention of the gorgeous Sue. But when Bobby discovers that shy Laura is no slouch on the piano, love and rock 'n' roll fame beckons...

Set between the years of 1957 and 1963, Dreamboats and Petticoats is the story of Norman and Bobby, two talented young musicians trying to achieve their rock n’ roll dreams at the same time as striving to win the hearts of the girls of their dreams, respective crushes Laura and Sue.

Dreamboats and Petticoats is inspired by music from artists of the golden era of rock ‘n’ roll such as Billy Fury, Joe Brown, Helen Shapiro, Bill Haley, Buddy Holly, Bobby Darin and Chuck Berry.

Written by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran of ‘Birds of a Feather’ fame, Dreamboats and Petticoats premiered in Bromley, England in February 2009 before subsequently moving to the Savoy Theatre in July of the same year, where it enjoyed a three month run.

After a three month hiatus the musical found a new home at the Playhouse Theatre. Dreamboats and Petticoats has undertaken a number of national tours since its inception in 2009, with the possibility of future productions opening in the United States and Australia.
