Atkinson Taps His Way Into Billy Elliot Cast

11-year old Zach Atkinson has joined the cast of Billy Elliot The Musical at the West End’s Victoria Palace Theatre.  He will play the role of Billy’s best friend Michael.

Atkinson will alternate the part with Joe Massey and Thomas Moore. Harris Beattie, Tade Biesinger, Harrison Dowzell and Redmand Rance share the lead role of Billy.

Despite his tender years, Atkinson already has a wealth of performing experience under his belt. He is a pianist, a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain and he attends The Lowry Young Actors in Salford Quays. He professes to have been badly bitten by the acting bug after having performed in his school play when he was just six years old.

Billy Elliot The Musical is based on the 2000 Oscar-winning film. It has a book and lyrics by Lee Hall and music by Elton John. The musical premiered at the Victoria Palace Theatre in 2005 and went onto win four Lawrence Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical.

A classic tale of triumph over adversity, it tells the story of 11-year-old Billy who lives with his Dad, Brother and Gran in a mining town in the north of England. Billy has a talent that could free him from his life of struggle and take him all the way to the top.
