Robert Sean Leonard (pictured) will play Atticus Finch in the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre’s production of To Kill A Mockingbird, which opens the theatre’s 2013 season on 16 May.

The Tony award-winning American actor is best known for playing Dr James Wilson in TV’s House and Neil Perry in the 1989 movie Dead Poets Society.

Leonard’s theatre credits on and off Broadway include The Invention of Love at the Lyceum Theatre, Arcadia at the Lincoln Centre and Long Day’s Journey into Night at the Plymouth Theatre. To Kill a Mockingbird will mark his first appearance on the London stage in 22 years.

Other cast members include Richie Campbell as Tom Robinson, Simon Gregor as Bob Ewell, Hattie Ladbury as Ms Maude Atkinson, Rona Morison as Mayella Ewell, Joe Speare as Reverend Sykes and Daniel Tuite as Boo Radley.

Eleanor Worthington-Cox will share the role of Finch’s daughter Scout. For her work in the lead role of the RSC’s production of Matilda The Musical, she became the youngest actress ever to receive an Olivier Award.

Directed by Timothy Sheader, this adaptation of Harper Lee’s classic novel To Kill A Mockingbird tells the story of Atticus Finch, a lawyer in the Depression-era American South, who defends a black man against a questionable charge of sexual assault against a white woman, and the effect the case has on Finch’s children.
