October Half Term’s almost upon us. If you’re stuck for ideas for how to keep your kids out of the house but off the streets, look no further.

London’s West End is currently abuzz with arguably its biggest and best ever selection of family shows, any one of which will provide a major school hols treat for you and your children. And - this being DiscountTheatre - turning your half pints' Half Term dreams into reality needn’t mean smashing open the piggy bank.

Much-loved storybook characters including The Gruffalo and the weird and wonderful cast of Dr Seuss' stories are alive on the London stage this October, ready to captivate your little ones and introduce them to the magic of live theatre.

For older children, there are Roald Dahl’s deliciously dark fables Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda, both presented in spectacular, award-winning productions. For teens, shows like Wicked and War Horse provide smart, passionate entertainment.

The best thing about all of these shows is that they really are designed for families, not just for children. Featuring world-class production values and clever writing, there are enough over-the-kids’-heads references and gags built in to ensure that mums and dads head home afterwards as satisfied as their offspring.

Needless to say, we’ll be bundling our own sprogs into the hatchback and heading 'up West' come the school hols. If you need inspiration to help you choose yours, you might like try our personal picks. The Lion King, with tickets from £45, or director Sam 'Skyfall' Mendes' awe-inspiring Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with tickets from £32, are available at these prices for the duration of our Half Term Sale
