Andrew Lloyd Webber’s arena production of Jesus Christ Superstar will return in 2013 with the original touring cast.
In 2012 Webber launched a TV talent search to cast the lead role of Jesus in his first ever UK arena staging of his rock opera written with Tim Rice. Winner Ben Forster stared alongside Tim Minchin (Judas Iscariot), Melanie C (Mary Magdalene) and Chris Moyles (King Herod). All the leads will return for the 2013 date.
Speaking about the revival, Webber said "Last year's tour surpassed our expectations. The response from audiences across the UK and Ireland was overwhelming and the show was everything I had hoped for. It's great news that fans will have a final chance to see the show with the original arena tour cast.
Jesus Christ Superstar, a rock retelling of the last seven days of Christ’s life, first premiered in 1971. Apostle Judas Iscariot becomes concerned about Jesus’ growing reputation as a heaven-sent King and warns Jesus not to risk the anger of the Roman Empire. When Jesus doesn’t heed him, a chain of events is set in motion that leads Jesus to his ultimate fate at the hands of Pontius Pilate and King Herod.
The 2013 tour kicks off on 10 March at Nottingham Capital FM arena, before visiting London (13 March), Liverpool (15 March), Cardiff (17 March), Manchester (24 March), Newcastle (26 March) and Birmingham (28 March). Tickets will go on sale on Friday 9 December.
