Full casting has been announced for Jonathan Harvey’s award-winning play Beautiful Thing, which opens at the Arts Theatre on 13 April. The revival will celebrate the play's twentieth anniversary since it's West End premiere.
Suranne Jones (pictured) will play the role of Sandra, Zaraah Abrahams will take on the role of Leah, Oliver Farnworth will star as Tony and playing the roles of the teenagers at the centre of Beautiful Thing’s urban love story are Jake Davies as Jamie and Danny-Boy Hatchard as ‘Ste’.
Jones is best known for her role as Karen McDonald in Coronation Street and DC Rachel Bailey in Scott & Bailey. Her stage credits include Top Girls at the Minerva Theatre, Blythe Spirit at the Manchester Royal Exchange and A Few Good Men at the Haymarket Theatre. She has won numerous awards for her television roles.
Abrahams is best known for her on screen roles as Michaela White in Waterloo Road and Joanne Jackson in Coronation Street. She has also appeared alongside Jones in Scott and Bailey. In 2008 she was a finalist on BBC’s Dancing on Ice.
Farnworth’s television credits include playing series regular Will Hackett on Hollyoaks. His theatre credits include Saturday Night and Sunday Morning at the Harrogate, The Merchant of Venice at Penshurst Place Gardens and Holding the Man at the Trafalgar Studios.
Jakes Davies recent television credits include the ITV drama A Mother’s Son, which he starred in opposite Martin Clunes. Danny-Boy Hatchard is a recent graduate from Arts Educational, and will be making his West End debut in Beautiful Thing.
Beautiful Thing centres on Jamie’s relationship with classmate and neighbour Ste, as they come to grips with their sexuality and the effect it has on the people in their lives. Together the two boys find comedy, warmth and the music of Mama Cass through their loud-mouthed next door neighbour Leah.
