Kristen Beth Williams, Alex Gaumond and Clive Hayward will join the cast of Top Hat on 5 February. They play the roles of Dale Tremont, Alberto Beddini and Horace Hardwick respectively, opposite the the previously announced Gavin Lee as Jerry Travers.
Williams comes straight from the Broadway production of Nice Work If You Can Get It. Among her other recent Broadway credits are Anything Goes at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre and Promises Promises at the Broadway Theatre.
Canadian-born actor and singer Alex Gaumond’s previous West End credits include the role of Galileo in We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre and Emmett Forrest in Legally Blonde the Musical at the Savoy Theatre and on UK tour.
Clive Hayward has recently been playing put-upon ministerial private secretary Bernard Woolley in Yes, Prime Minister at Trafalgar Studios. His other stage credits include Cliff Turner in Ducktastic at the Albery Theatreand Haig in Oh What A Lovely War at the National Theatre.
Top Hat tells the story of American tap dancer Jerry Travers, who comes to London to star in his first West End show and falls in love with the girl of his dreams, Dale Tremont.
The show opened at the Aldwych Theatre 70 years after the classic movie musical starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers on which it is based opened in cinemas.
Top Hat has been adapted for the stage by Matthew White and Howard Jacques. It includes many of Irving Berlin’s classic songs from the original film including Cheek to Cheek and the title song, plus ten more numbers from Berlin’s catalogue.
