The final cast has been announced for the West End production of Chariots of Fire, which closes at the Gielgud Theatre on 2 February 2013.
The production will retain current leads Jack Lowden as Eric Liddell and James McArdle as Harold Abrahams, as well as new cast members David Beams, Isabella Calthorpe, Zac Fox, Leigh Lothian, David McGranaghan, Aki Omoshaybi, Dylan Turner and Gabriel Vick. The new ensemble will join current cast members Gareth Charlton, Henry Davis, Lloyd Everitt, Daniel Fraser, Nickolas Grace, Matthew Pearson, Savannah Stevenson, Paul Tinto, Simon Williams, Tam Williams and Nicholas Woodeson.
Chariots of Fire opened at the Hampstead Theatre in May. After a sell-out run there it transferred to the West End’s Gielgud theatre on 23 June. The production is directed by Edward Hall and sports the iconic Vangelis theme from the Academy Award winning film.
The stage production of Chariots of Fire is based on Hugh Hudson’s classic 1982 Brit-flick, itself based on the extraordinary true story of track athletes Harold Abrahams, an English Jew who runs to defeat prejudice and Eric Liddell, a devout Scottish Christian who runs for the glory of God.
These gifted men must fight a battle fraught with social and political pressures to gain acceptance and win the chance to represent Great Britain at the 1924 Olympic Games.
