We Will Rock You celebrates its 4000th performance at the Dominion Theatre on 20 September, and on 8 October it gets two new leads: West End heart-throb Oliver Tompsett and Rachael Wooding. The talented twosome will take over as Galileo and Scaramouche from Noel Sullivan and Lauren Samuels.
Tompsett built up a huge female fanbase as Fiyero in Wicked at the Apollo Victoria. It's his best known role, which he played for over three years. He first appeared in the West End in Madness musical Our House at the Cambridge Theatre in 2002. Among his other London theatre credits are Christmas In New York at the Apollo Theatre and Mamma Mia! at the Prince of Wales Theatre. He also originated the part of Drew in Rock Of Ages at the Shaftesbury Theatre.
Wooding is no stranger to the OTT world of Queen's perennially popular sc-fi 'stravaganza - she played Meat in the show during 2006-07. More recently she was Mary Delgado in Jersey Boys at the Prince Edward Theatre and took the lead in the UK tour of Evita. Among her other West End credits are Saturday Night Fever, Hairspray and Fame.
WWRY producer and erstwhile Queen axe-strangler Brian May was full of love for his two new stars.
"We're very excited to welcome our two new leading stars to We Will Rock You," said the luxuriantly befrizzed sometime astrophysicist. "We had had our eye on Olly Tompsett for a while, always thinking he would make a great Galileo. Rachael Wooding is an old and respected friend and was great in the role of Meat. We had always hoped that she would return one day and take on Scara. Oliver and Rachael will be an explosive combination."
