Brit acting legend and real-life cabaret star Sian Phillips (pictured) is joining the cast of director Rufus Norris' production of Cabaret at the Savoy Theatre.
The addition of Phillips to the cast is accompanied by the news that Matt Rawle and Harriet Thorpe will also join previously announced stars Will Young and Michelle Ryan in the show, which opens on 3 October.
Before it reaches the Savoy, Cabaret will undertake a UK tour starting in Bromley, Kent on 30 August.
Sian Phillips has racked up countless theatre credits in her long career. Recent among them are Lovesong, Calendar Girls and Juliet and Her Romeo.
Phillips has also enjoyed a wide-ranging career as a film and television actress, with notable appearances in I Claudius, Goodbye Mr Chips, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Dune among many others.
Harriet Thorpe is returing to the role of Fraulein Kost in Cabaret, a role she first played in the orignal run of Norris’ production in 2006. Her other stage credits include Brighton Rock, Les Misérables, Wicked, Mamma Mia! and Crazy For You.
Matt Rawle’s West End credits include Evita, Martin Guerre, Pippin and Zorro, for which he received an Olivier nomination.
Cabaret premiered on Broadway in 1966 and in became an Oscar-winning 1972 film starring Liza Minnelli. The book is by Joe Masteroff with music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb. This current production of Cabaret is choreographed by Javier de Frutos.
